Crisis Intervention Team training
for law enforcement
offered by Wayne Holmes Mental Health Coalition

May 14-18, 2012

Please call 330-264-1590 for more information or to enroll in this free program offered to Law Enforcement officers in Wayne and Holmes Counties.
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training

The goal of CIT training is to give law enforcement professionals tools and information  on how to effectively manage a person with mental illness.

CIT is provided for police officers, sheriff deputies, parole, probation and correction officers and dispatchers.

Law Enforcement representatives from Wayne and Holmes Counties receive specialized training in crisis intervention with emphasis on understanding mental illness and how to de-escalate crisis situations safely. Topics covered include introductions to psychiatric illnesses, substance abuse, risk assessment, suicide prevention, tactical safety and children with emotional problems and mental illness. During the week, officers attend class, experience virtual hallucinations and receive actual experience in the community with case managers.

This patrol-oriented, 40-hour training course is provided at no cost to law enforcement personnel from Wayne and Holmes Counties. Funding is provided by the Wayne Holmes Mental Health Coalition's Walk for Wellness held annually in May. Class size is limited. For information on how you can participate in this program, call 330-264-1590.

Over 4,280 law enforcement officers from 75 Ohio counties have completed CIT training from 2000 to 2010.
