Free Education class for friends and family begins January 5
The NAMI Family to Family Education Program is a free 12-week course for families and friends of individuals with brain disorders called serious mental illness. It begins Tuesday, January 5, 2010. The course is taught by trained family members who have lived with this experience. All course materials are furnished at no cost to you.
Topics include:
1. Family Responses to the Trauma of Mental Illness
2. Schizophrenia, Major Depression and Mania:
Diagnosis and dealing with critical periods
3. Depression and Bipolar subtypes; Panic disorder;
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD);
Borderline Personality Disorder;
Co-Occurring brain and addictive disorders
4. The Biology of the Brain: Emerging Scientific Discoveries
5. Problem Solving Workshop
6. Advocacy: Fighting Stigma

MOCA House Recover Center Won!
The Wayne Holmes Mental Health Coalition is looking into opening a Mental Health Recovery House and has been granted approval to use the First Presbyterian Church's Manse on College Avenue (MOCA). Much work needs to be done before this dream becomes a reality and fundraising is the first step.
The Wooster Rotary, Kiwanis and Noon Lions are offering a service project to the winner of the public vote! There are three organizations in the running-Wayne Holmes Mental Health Coalition's Manse on College Avenue Recovery House won the popular vote and therefore the Service Grant! We are so thankful to the clubs and to our friends who voted for this important project.

New Daytime Education, Support and Discussion Group
New, facilitated Education, Support and Discussion Group began on August 6, 2009 in Wayne County
We welcome Krista Wegner Lehman, MSW, LISW-S, as facilitator of these new groups. Krista comes to the WHMHC by way of the Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties where she has worked as a Home Based Intervention Therapist since the closing of PSR in March, 2009, where she served as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Social Worker.
